The word aerie refers the nest of a bird on a cliff or a mountaintop. It is an elevated and often secluded dwelling, structure, or position. This series seeks to be lighthearted and bright, offering the mystery of a bird contained in a vessel and the tactile pleasure of a nest-like texture, while subtly addressing an unconventional sense of place. In the jugs and vases, a crease in the form seems to trap the bird contained inside. This feature is actually functional in each piece providing a gathering point for the stems of flowers in the vase and regulating the flow of liquid out of the jug to produce a delightful pour as well as offering a comfortable holding point while pouring. The nest bowls come in three sizes, the smallest of which contains a small bird.
